Job Summary
Installation & repair-focused technician role performing locates and progressing to install and maintain Alaska Communications services in assigned areas, including terrestrial copper and fiber, wireless/microwave towers, and related facilities. Responsibilities include completing service and capital work orders, line-station transfers and cuts, installing and qualifying data cabling to current specs, establishing demarcation points, conducting preventive maintenance inspections, installing aerial/underground drops, splicing to plant, and addressing wiring deficiencies across distribution, house cables, and underground/ aerial drops. Requires high school diploma, driver’s license, and 4 years formal/apprentice training or equivalent with 2 years in relevant work; ability to read schematics, climb poles, and differentiate colors; valid Alaska driver’s license, Medical Card, and DOT drug/alcohol background check. Certifications/licenses in line with roles may be required.
Required Qualifications
- Must have a high school diploma
- Must possess and maintain a driver’s license
- Four (4) years training in a relevant telephone apprentice program or equivalent experience
- Two (2) years' experience in the skills and work this position will typically perform
- Ability to operate necessary equipment
- Ability to read and interpret schematics and diagrams
- Ability to climb and perform work functions on poles
- Ability to differentiate colors
- Possess a valid Alaska Driver's License
- Medical Card and pass a DOT Drug and Alcohol Background check
