Job Summary
Conduct inbound inspections of fresh produce according to Standard Operating Procedures, including random sampling, defect identification, and verifying attributes like weight, temperature, and package integrity. Evaluate product quality against specifications, document findings, and reject non-conforming items while managing vendor return processes. Monitor cold-chain management practices, perform equipment calibration checks, and coordinate government inspections. Collaborate with replenishment and category teams to communicate quality concerns and recommend corrective actions. Maintain accurate records related to inspections and product evaluations.
Required Qualifications
- Strong understanding of quality control principles, inspection techniques, and fresh produce quality standards
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with vendors, replenishment teams, category teams, and operations partners
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify defects, quality concerns, and opportunities for improvement
- Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively within a team environment
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and perform effectively under tight timelines
- Ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment
- Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Experience using and calibrating inspection tools such as scales, pressure testers, pulp thermometers, and refractometers
- General knowledge of food safety requirements, regulatory standards, and best practices
- Ability to accurately assess product color, maturity, freshness, and overall quality characteristics
- Successful candidates will be required to provide documentation to prove their legal ability to work in the position during the onboarding process
Desired Qualifications
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and quality documentation systems is considered an asset
- 1–2 years of experience in produce inspection, quality assurance, fresh produce operations, or a related field
- Experience as a USDA/CFIA inspector, retail produce manager, private produce inspection professional, grower, wholesaler, or similar industry role
- Familiarity with USDA, CFIA, and fresh produce industry quality standards and regulatory requirements
