Insomniac - Production Designer

Job Summary
Senior Production Designer needed by Insomniac to lead end-to-end design for live events and festivals. You will create design decks, 3D renderings, and technical drawings, supervise staff, and collaborate with clients and internal teams from pre-production through post-production. This on-site, travel-heavy role requires nights/weekends, extensive coordination, and a strong problem-solving, detail-oriented mindset to deliver immersive event experiences.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of working experience as a designer or in a related position
- 5+ years of event coordinating/planning and execution
- Proficiency in SketchUp, Maya, Blender, Revit, or 3ds Max with the ability to export to AutoCAD
- Proficiency in spreadsheets, Apple operating systems, Google Suite, Airtable, Asana, and other programs as necessary
- Ability to effectively supervise and manage groups of staff
- Motivated with an 'Everything is possible' attitude
- Active problem solver with a sense of urgency for projects large and small
- Detail-oriented and excellent organizational skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks
- Must be able to work nights and weekends and travel (economy) overnight/weekends
- Ability to travel is required (economy)
Desired Qualifications
- Experience designing for and managing on-site installations for large-scale live events/festivals
- Proficiency in additional 3D software beyond listed options and ability to create high-quality renderings
- Proficiency with CAD workflows, technical drawings, and fabrication processes
- Experience coordinating with clients, producers, and artist management to translate concepts into builds
- Experience leading cross-functional design teams and mentoring junior designers
- Familiarity with project management tools (e.g., Asana, Airtable) and collaboration platforms
- Strong problem-solving skills with an proactive, can-do attitude
- Experience with lighting plots and 3D lighting design principles
- Experience working in a fast-paced, entertainment industry environment
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills (written and verbal)
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities
Additional Requirements
- U.S. work authorization required; employer will not sponsor visa
- On-site role with travel to event locations required; nights/weekends often required
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and tolerate loud environments
