Job Summary
Inpatient Surgical APP provides inpatient/perioperative care for trauma/ACS and surgical oncology patients. Responsibilities include daily inpatient rounds with surgery team, comprehensive histories and physicals, management of postoperative and non-operative surgical patients (pain, wound/drain/ostomy care, nutrition, VTE prophylaxis), identifying/postoperative complications, admission/discharge orders, and coordinating safe discharges. Performs bedside procedures as credentialed, assists in the operating room as first assistant when needed, and collaborates with trauma surgeons, ICU teams, oncology, nutrition, case management, pharmacy, and other services. Operates in a multidisciplinary, hospital-based inpatient surgical setting with weekday coverage (no nights, weekends, holidays, or call). Education and professional development for APPs; ensures accurate EMR documentation and adherence to quality/safety protocols. The role requires PA or NP credentialing in CT, ACLS, and ongoing professional development.
Required Qualifications
- Physician Assistant (PA) graduate ARC-PA accredited program
- Current NCCPA certification
- Licensed or license-eligible as a Physician Assistant in the State of Connecticut
- Nurse Practitioner (NP) graduate of accredited Acute Care Adult-Gerontology NP program (preferred)
- Current national board certification (AANP or ANCC)
- Licensed or license-eligible as an APRN in the State of Connecticut
- RNFA for OR 1st assist role
- ACLS required or must be obtained within onboarding
- ATLS preferred
- Prior inpatient surgical experience strongly preferred
- Experience with multidisciplinary team including surgical residents/fellows
- Experience in trauma, acute care surgery, or surgical oncology highly desirable
