Job Summary
Remote inpatient medical coder role performing retrospective medical record quality audits to determine appellate potential of denied reimbursement. Builds a concise case for appeal using guidelines (AHA, CMS), ICD-9-CM/ICD-10/CPT coding, and documentation to ensure accuracy for principal/secondary diagnoses (including MCC/CC). Provides education and coding guidance to clients, leverages electronic tools and client systems (ACE, Invision, Star, Meditech, EPIC, MedAssets, etc.), and uses encoder/abstracting systems. Requires 3+ years of healthcare coding/audit experience, a Bachelor’s or Associate degree in HIM (or equivalent), and RHIA/RHIT and/or CCS credentials (dual credential preferred). Remote work with eligibility for US-based remote placement. Proficient in 3M 360, Cerner, Epic; strong knowledge of UB04 and EOB components; capability to write appeal letters and interact with legal counsel as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Associate degree in HIM or equivalent
- RHIA, RHIT and/or CCS credentials; dual credential preferred
