Job Summary
Code and enter diagnostic and procedure codes into a designated system using the 3M encoder to abstract inpatient records for data retrieval, analysis, reimbursement, and research. Navigate the EMR while meeting quality and productivity standards across all facilities. Demonstrate competency in inpatient coding guidelines, DRG assignment, and intermediate to advanced technical skills in ICD-10 CM, CPT-4, HCPCS, and coding modifiers. This advanced-level role requires current AHIMA or AAPC credentials, with certification required within one year of hire. Candidates must have at least four years of coding experience or complete the organization's internal program. Work remotely from eligible states, supporting CommonSpirit's mission to build healthy communities through compassionate care across over 700 sites.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma/ GED
- A minimum of 4 years coding experience preferably in an inpatient acute care setting or a minimum of 2 years' experience and successful completion of the organizations internal coding program
- Current AHIMA credentials (i.e. RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P) or AAPC credentials (COC, CIC, CPC-H, CPC)
- Must be certified within One Year of hire
- Demonstrate competency of inpatient coding guidelines and DRG assignment
- Demonstrate intermediate to advanced technical coding competency in ICD-10 CM, CPT-4, HCPCS and Coding Modifiers
- Knowledge of disease management, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, pharmacology and coding systems (i.e.3M)
