Job Summary
Inmate Caseworker at Oakland County Jail handles evaluation interviews to assess inmate needs and determine treatment plans and cell placement, provides crisis intervention, individual and group counseling, refers inmates to services or psychiatrists, and coordinates pre- and post-release referrals to community resources. Responsibilities include suicide watch determinations, maintaining documentation, collaboration with corrections/probation staff, and ensuring inmates receive appropriate care through countywide and department software. The role is onsite in Pontiac, MI, with afterhours emergency coverage on a rotating basis; opportunities to develop skills in crisis intervention, suicide prevention, and counseling, contributing to inmate safety, rehabilitation, and successful community re-entry.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Criminal Justice or closely related field; Master’s degree may substitute for one year of experience
- valid motor vehicle operator's license
- background investigation including personal records; conviction considerations as per policy
