Job Summary
Conduct semi-skilled manual labor for the Infrastructure Division, including pouring concrete, laying drainage pipe, cleaning storm drains, painting street markings, and performing routine preventative maintenance. Operate small equipment such as chain saws, tampers, and concrete vibrators while repairing storm drain structures and installing erosion control devices. Shovel dirt, gravel, and hot asphalt, and deploy warning signs and barricades for work zones. Respond to severe weather events and minor flooding issues, and provide assistance to other Town Departments as directed. Represent the Town by interacting with the public daily. Work outdoors regardless of weather conditions, including adverse elements, noise, and odors, with occasional travel during evening hours. Maintain a valid South Carolina Driver's License and work under moderate intermittent physical strength requirements.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- one (1) year prior work experience
- equivalent combination of education and experience
- Valid South Carolina Driver's License
- Knowledge of building and construction techniques
- Knowledge of operation and maintenance of Division equipment utilizing effective practices and techniques
- Knowledge of department safety practices and techniques
- Knowledge of various department tools and equipment
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in written form
- Ability to follow directions and complete tasks in a detailed and accurate manner
- Ability to complete tasks quickly, efficiently, and safely
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with co-workers
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Ability to work under adverse weather conditions
