Job Summary
Infrastructure Engineering - Linguist III role involves performing linguistic analyses on large datasets, analyzing AI model outputs for error categories, writing and revising guidelines for human annotation and NLP tasks, conducting typological and sociolinguistic research across many languages, evaluating biases in multilingual responsible-AI contexts, literature reviews, comparing vendor deliverables to identify error patterns, and providing linguistic guidance to engineers and researchers. The candidate collaborates with native speakers, communicates results to engineers/research scientists, and supports cross-functional work across NLP/ML teams.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate degree in Linguistics or related field is mandatory
- PhD is a plus
- Near-native proficiency in German or Turkish and high proficiency (CEFRL C1) in the other language
- Strong written and spoken communication skills (business and research communication)
- Proficiency in Python (required) and SQL (required); other data-analysis languages a plus
- Ability to work independently, manage priorities, plan, and track progress
- Experience collaborating with machine learning, NLP, or software engineers, or data scientists
- Experience contributing to research papers; cross-functional collaboration
- Experience with corpus linguistics, language typology, syntax, morphology, sociolinguistics (dialectology, discourse analysis), pragmatics, phonology
- Experience with field work; working with native speakers
- Understanding of international language-classification standards is valued
- Must have some experience applying basic Natural Language Processing techniques
- Experience with evaluating biases and responsible AI considerations in multilingual NLP settings
