Job Summary
Lead and supervise the acquisition of real property interests, including rights, permits, and expropriation agreements, while developing and overseeing aligned Property Acquisition strategies. Conduct land investigations, due diligence, and technical coordination to ensure conformity with project objectives and regulatory frameworks. Act as a senior Land Agent leading negotiations with landowners, municipalities, utilities, and government agencies, advising on complex compensation matters. Chair project meetings, collaborate with design and engineering teams, and review project design drawings to ensure alignment with acquisition strategies. Identify land-related risks, develop mitigation strategies, and prepare financial models, cost estimates, and business cases to support project feasibility. Draft reports, agreements, and presentations while managing acquisition budgets and organizing documentation within Project Agreements. Mentor team members on best practices and guide staff in responding to RFIs and change requests.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Real Estate, Business Administration, Urban Planning, or a related field
- Minimum 10 years of experience in land acquisition and real property services for infrastructure or large-scale development projects
- Minimum 5 years demonstrating experience as a Land Agent, including negotiations, land investigations, stakeholder engagement, and expropriation processes
- Office-based or Hybrid (Travel may be required)
Desired Qualifications
- Recognized professional certification from one or more of the following: International Right-of-Way Association (IRWA), Ordre des Évaluateurs Agréés du Québec (OEAQ) o Appraisal Institute of Canada (AIC)
- Membership in good standing with IRWA, OEAQ, and/or ECI
- In-depth understanding of real estate acquisition and expropriation processes, including compensation frameworks
- Proven ability to lead complex negotiations and manage sensitive stakeholder relationships
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to deliver clear, audience-appropriate reports and presentations
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize risks and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
- Detail-oriented, analytical, and solutions-focused
- Comfortable working in multidisciplinary technical environments
