Job Summary
Monitor performance, availability, and utilization of DASD and VTS storage resources while troubleshooting issues and resolving outages. Implement and manage daily data backups using Safeguarded Copy, ensuring data replication for disaster recovery and failover. Analyze storage usage trends for capacity planning and configure storage solutions, including allocating space and implementing changes. Respond to major incidents, perform root cause analysis, and collaborate with hardware vendors on installations and upgrades. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff, develop recovery runbooks, and participate in DR testing and system restoration planning.
Required Qualifications
- Two years of college with coursework in the computer science field
- Four years of experience with technical systems and/or programming experience and/or IT project management
- Equivalent combination of education and experience
- Extensive knowledge of systems design and implementation
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Extensive knowledge necessary to effectively perform the ability to exercise sound judgement in analyzing, appraising, evaluating, and solving problems of a procedural, organizational, administrative, and technical nature
- Awareness and adherence to organizational standards for security, privacy and ethics
- Extensive knowledge of the devices for capturing data for computers and the means available for receiving and transmitting data from remote locations to a computer
- Extensive knowledge of the principles and techniques of computer system documentation
- Extensive knowledge of the advantages and limitations of computer communication, and information retrieval systems as management information tools
- Ability to organize facts and findings, analyze data logically and to present results with clarity and comprehension, orally and in written or graphic form
- Ability to use and understand appropriate methods, tools, applications, and processes to demonstrate a rational and organized approach to work
- Willingness to travel
- Possession of a valid Illinois driver's license
- Ability to push/pull, lift and carry up to 50 lbs
- Valid Illinois Driver's License
