Job Summary

Infant/Toddler Teacher leads care and education within a Head Start program, functioning as a team leader/co-leader. Responsible for implementing and planning the curriculum with active participation from the caregiving team, working with parents, and assessing individual children. Responsibilities include implementing screening procedures within 45 days of entry, applying a research-based curriculum aligned with Head Start outcomes, conducting parent-teacher conferences (at least two center visits and two home visits), modeling sound teaching practices, planning age-appropriate lesson plans, maintaining safe classroom environments, conducting monthly fire drills and regular weather/lockdown drills, administering and documenting medication procedures, ensuring high levels of supervision and enrollment, facilitating family referrals for services, adhering to program plans and performance standards, documenting attendance and child records, ensuring confidentiality, and performing any other duties as assigned. Work requirements include strong communication skills, computer- and recordkeeping proficiency, and bilingual ability (Spanish/English) preferred. A valid driver’s license, background check clearance, and pre-employment physical are required. Education/Certifications include a CDA or equivalent and an Associate Degree in a related field, plus ongoing professional development. The role emphasizes safety, developmentally appropriate environments, and collaboration with families and the caregiving team to support each child’s growth and positive outcomes.

Required Qualifications

  • Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) or comparable credential
  • Associate Degree in child development, early childhood education, or related major
  • Trained or have equivalent coursework in early childhood development with focus on infant and toddler development
  • 24 clock hours of professional development per year (active supervision, safety practices, training on child abuse/neglect)
  • Valid driver's license and acceptance by Agency’s vehicle insurance carrier
  • Pass TDFPR background check
  • Pass pre-employment physical
  • Bilingual ability (Spanish/English) preferred
