Job Summary
Plan, implement, and evaluate a developmentally appropriate and inclusive curriculum for infants and toddlers in the Early Head Start/Head Start program under direct supervision. Provide direct classroom instruction and support primary caregiving in meeting children’s personal care needs, conduct home visits and parent conferences, maintain weekly lesson plans and progress notes, conduct child screenings and assessments, coordinate classroom meetings and volunteer/ intern supervision, participate in staff and parent trainings, and coordinate prenatal education and health resources to support pregnant women. Must be bilingual in Spanish, possess a Child Development Associate Teacher Permit, meet California CDA requirements, and comply with health and safety requirements including CPR/first aid and immunizations, with ability to travel for home visits as required by the program.
Required Qualifications
- H.S. Diploma or national equivalent
- Must possess and maintain a Child Development Associate Teacher Permit (CDA)
- Must meet ongoing educational requirements to qualify for CDA
- Current pediatric (infant/toddler) CPR and first aid certificate
- Food handler’s certificate
- Experience teaching in a preschool or infant/toddler classroom setting (50 days of 3+ hours per day within 2-year period)
- Proficiency with MS Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Skype)
- Ability to interpret and implement regulations from California Department of Education, Title 5, Department of Social Services, CC Licensing, and Head Start Performance Standards
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work cooperatively with diverse groups
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 lbs
- Ability to pass post-offer physical examination and TB test
- Ability to obtain and maintain criminal background clearance (DOJ and FBI) and sex offender index clearance
