Job Summary
Grind, sand, prime, seal, and apply multiple coats of paint to structural steel in both paint booths and outdoor areas while inspecting for runs, sags, or unpainted spots. Clean surfaces, tape off non-spray zones, and assist the supervisor in selecting equipment and handling hazardous waste materials. Perform touchups during production and shipping, clean brushes and spray guns, and work on ladders or under machines to reach high ceilings. Calculate material requirements and report shortages. Work outside, inside, and in dusty, noisy environments while wearing full PPE.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 2 years related painting, spray gun and Caulking experience
- Ability to read and follow paint data sheets
- Must understand and work within NACE and AISC coating requirements
- Ability to work carefully and pay attention to detail
- Adept at using chemicals in a safe manner
- Must be dependable
- Exposure to Contaminants (such as pollutants, gases, dust or odors)
- Noise Level can be distracting or uncomfortable
- Stand for long periods of time
- Must be able to work with solvents such as acetone, MAK, isopropanol alcohol, isocyanates (catalysts/hardeners) and other paint related materials
- Must wear all required PPE (personal protective equipment) for the area
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. and have stamina to work long hours on their feet; should be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl or climb and work from a ladder
- Good Vision ability to include: color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception
- Takes direction well, ability to work independently and in a group
- Must have working knowledge of all trade materials and tools
- Ability to lift and carry 51 to 75 lbs. occasionally, and/or 31 to 45 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 16 to 22 pounds of force constantly to move objects
- Climbing ladders from 4' to 24'
- Lifting and handling materials
- Wearing full PPE (respirators, suits, gloves)
- Work outside, inside, and in dusty, noisy and hazardous areas
- Work in high places, tight places, confined spaces and/or other adverse locations
- Climb, balance, squat, kneel and crouch
- Work in all types of weather
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge in Alkyd enamel and epoxy paint a plus
- Manufacturing experience preferred
