Job Summary
Conduct entry maintenance, fabrication, overhaul, and repair of mechanical equipment in water, wastewater, and reclaimed treatment facilities. Assist or lead crews in preventive and corrective maintenance, new installations, and cost estimating for maintenance work. Troubleshoot equipment problems, locate leaks, and detect defects while performing predictive and preventative maintenance using vibration and ultrasound testing tools. Fabricate and machine repair parts, operating lathes, mill/drill presses, and welders for steel, brass, and aluminum. Input and gather data from SCADA and CAMS systems, run reports, and review system designs to recommend facility changes. Direct subordinate employees, provide training, and respond to declared emergencies, including shift work, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Required Qualifications
- prior experience in maintenance best practices and procedures
- advanced knowledge of preventative maintenance practices, procedures, and techniques for lubrication and greasing
- some background in Stick, TIG, or MIG welding
- knowledge of PVC, CPVC, and flanged piping repairs
- willingness to work overtime as needed
- understanding that participation in a 24/7 after-hours standby rotation program is required
- basic computer skills with standard software such as Excel, Word, Outlook
- knowledge of a computer-operated work management system
- possession of a CDL driver's license
- possession of a collection license
- Ability to pass medical testing
- Ability to wear various types of respiratory protection deemed necessary for the environment being worked in
- Ability to perform predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance on assigned equipment and machinery
- Ability to estimate time, materials, and equipment required for assigned jobs
- Ability and willingness to respond to emergency situations such as floods, hurricanes, tornadoes and other natural and/or unnatural crises
- Ability and willingness to work overtime, rotating shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays
- Ability to operate a fork lift, backhoe, boom/bucket truck or other heavy equipment
- Ability to serve as the lead employee as directed on project teams assigned to a given assignment
- Knowledge of the maintenance and repair of machinery and related mechanical equipment
- Knowledge of the water, reclaim, wastewater treatment systems and sewer pump/lift stations and low pressure sewer systems
- Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of the water/wastewater/reclaim facilities operating equipment
- Knowledge of the principals of hydraulics, electricity, combustion, and standard safety practices
- Knowledge on the principles and practices of odor control and/or disinfection processes
- Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose equipment problems to determine the proper remedial action to be taken, and to make the necessary repairs to equipment
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to read piping and electrical diagrams, schematics, and blueprints
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
- Ability to work effectively with others
- Employee is expected to be able to work in and around confined spaces such as wet wells, vaults, manholes, trench boxes, tanks, and in areas of height using ladders, man-lifts of any kind, on top of buildings or tanks/structures wearing a harness and protective safety gear
- Employee is expected to be able to work in environments where toxic or chemical fumes not natural to the atmosphere exist while wearing protective respiratory equipment, as necessary
- May require shift work which will include working nights, weekends, and holidays as well as working extended hours during times of emergency
