Job Summary
Apprentice role focused on learning mechanical and electrical maintenance in a steel-manufacturing environment. Responsibilities include repairing equipment, reading repair orders, troubleshooting, and performing routine maintenance under supervision, while adhering to safety rules and using PPE. The role involves operating mobile equipment (loaders, cranes, manlifts, forklift), reading condition reports, communicating with coworkers, and contributing to preventive maintenance and equipment installation/upgrades. Candidates should have basic computer skills (MS Word, Excel), be willing to learn, work in a team, and adapt to rotating day/night shifts with potential extended hours. Training and advancement opportunities are emphasized, along with additional duties as assigned and participation in safety programs.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Must be dedicated to learning the trade
- Must be self-starter and able to follow directions
- Must be able to work in a team
- Proficient in at least one basic craft (electrician/millwright/fabricator/welder/vehicle mechanic) is preferred
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb stairs and stand for extended periods
- Must be willing to work rotating shifts including weekends and holidays
- Exposure to heat, dust, fumes, and loud environments
