Job Summary
Under direction, performs technically difficult industrial hygiene work related to hazardous materials and other health and environmental hazards in San Francisco; independently conducts routine industrial hygiene monitoring of chemical, biological, and physical agents; serves as technical resource and advisor on occupational safety and health regulations; develops and maintains health and safety programs; designs and delivers training on proper use, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials; coordinates compliance with applicable laws, policies, and regulations; identifies, contains, and regulates use and storage of hazardous materials; conducts surveys and risk assessments of potentially hazardous workplace operations; provides technical support and reports to management and the public; works around and with hazardous materials while ensuring protective controls for workers; may perform related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety and Health; Environmental Sciences, Health, or Management; or a closely related field with at least 6 semesters of chemistry/biology/physics
- Two (2) years of professional industrial hygiene experience at or above the level of City and County of San Francisco class 6137 Assistant Industrial Hygienist or higher, including hazardous materials management or identification, evaluation, and control of occupational health hazards
- Valid driver’s license; if not a California driver’s license, ability to obtain one within 45 days of hire
