Job Summary
The Industrial Hygiene Technician role involves performing air monitoring for asbestos abatement, lead and mold remediation, investigating indoor air quality, and conducting health & safety inspections. Responsibilities include site inspections, collecting samples, developing reports, and coordinating with management and contractors. Candidates must have a high school diploma, a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, and various certifications related to asbestos and lead inspection. Proficiency in MS Office and knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations are also required. The position requires physical ability and a valid driver’s license.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma required
- Minimum of 2 years of experience preferred in performing asbestos, lead paint, IAQ, water intrusion/mold, general industrial hygiene, and facility-related abatement project monitoring and inspections
- Good oral and written communication skills
- A combination of certifications such as EPA AHERA / NYSDOL Asbestos Inspector, Project Designer, Project Monitor and Air Sampling Technician, NYSDOL Mold Assessor, NJ/EPA/NY Lead Risk Assessor/Inspector and/or NYCDEP Asbestos Investigator
- Working knowledge of MS Office software (Word, Excel, Adobe, etc.)
- Knowledge of applicable OSHA, EPA, and state regulations for asbestos, lead paint, etc.
- Must be willing to travel to and from job sites within the NY area
- Must be able to pass a physical exam and be medically cleared to wear negative pressure respirator
- Must be available to occasionally work night or weekend hours may and/or extended shifts beyond 8 hours
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record
- Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug test and will be subject to DOT-regulated random drug & alcohol testing
Desired Qualifications
- AS or BS in physical sciences or industrial hygiene, safety, environmental sciences, or related science or engineering fields preferred, but not required
- Additional asbestos accreditations preferred: Management Planner /Supervisor/Project Designer
- OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER
- Experience performing other IH-related work and non-IH environmental work
- Experience performing health and safety oversight
- Experience in construction management
