Job Summary

Install, repair, construct, test, and adjust electrical/electronic and controls on industrial equipment while maintaining production and plant systems. Troubleshoot complex electrical issues using schematics and engineering drawings, perform layout and wiring of components, and conduct preventive maintenance on electrical systems and equipment. Document maintenance activities, repair histories, and equipment performance metrics; participate in shift change turnover and department meetings. Adhere to safety rules, including Lock Out Tag Out, grounding, and arc flash prevention, and embrace Novelis Safety Absolutes to build a zero-injury culture. Willingness to work rotating shifts, off-shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays to support continuous operations.

Required Qualifications

  • HS Diploma/GED or 5 yrs industrial experience
  • 5 years experience in an industrial environment
  • 2 year degree/certification
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and standards such as NEC and OSHA
  • Ability and knowledge to select and use the proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Knowledge and ability to understand the Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), grounding, arc flash prevention, machine guarding, and alternative means of controls when troubleshooting live circuits
  • Familiar with safety of cranes, mobile equipment, working in heights, confined space and hot work such as welding
  • Electrical Circuit Understanding – Ability to read, interpret and troubleshoot electrical circuits through schematics, diagrams, and engineering drawings
  • Ability to use associated testing equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and megohmmeters
  • Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repair histories, and equipment performance metrics
  • Preventive and Predictive Maintenance – Ability to conduct routine maintenance on electrical systems and equipment to increase reliability and prevent failures
  • PLC Programming – knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers and the ability to troubleshoot these systems
  • Understanding of Ladder (LAD) and Function Block Diagram (FBD) logics
  • AC Motors – Working knowledge of alternating current and synchronous motors and the ability to install, troubleshoot, or repair
  • Control Systems – Understanding of industrial control systems and instrumentation including flow, pressure, and temperature sensors
  • Variable Frequency Drives – Experience working with VFDs to control motor speeds and operation
  • Knowledge to troubleshoot these systems during upset conditions or make parameter changes
  • Knowledge of Power Distribution Systems – how to install and maintain medium and low voltage circuits, as well as transformers, circuit breakers, switchgears, and switchboards
  • Knowledge of and ability to use standard electrical tools such as insulated, cable and wire management, and power tools
  • Wiring and Cable Management – Skill in running, routing conduits, and connecting electrical wires and cables properly, ensuring neat, efficient, and safe installations according to code
  • Motor Control Systems – Knowledge of controlling and maintaining various types of motors and Motor Control Centers (MCCs)
  • Written and oral communication skills
  • Computer skills
  • Familiarity with computer maintenance management systems
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, off-shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed to support continuous operations
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Able and willing to work at heights

Desired Qualifications

  • 5 years experience in an industrial environment and/or 2 year degree/certification, preferred
  • Familiarity with Allen Bradley PLCs – Experience with GuardLogix PLCs, and the ability to troubleshoot and program these systems
  • Familiarity with Siemens Controllers products such as PLC Step 7 1500, Remote I/Os, MCC Tiastar, TIA Portal, WinCC HMI and Drives SM150 and S120
  • Experience with SAP to display work orders and enter notifications
  • Experience in an Aluminum Recycling and Rolled Products or other heavy industry
  • Familiarity with automation systems – Understand industrial automation technologies and network configurations
  • Experience driving mobile equipment such as small cranes, lifts, fork trucks
  • Understanding of Mechanical Systems – Knowledge of electrical controls related to hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Instrumentation Calibration – Experience with calibrating and maintaining electrical instrumentation, sensors, and measuring devices
  • Combustion Systems – Familiarity with combustion systems, troubleshooting, and calibration
