Job Summary
Partner with Product Design on ideation and concept generation, providing input on manufacturability and 3D design direction. Develop new ideas through rapid ideation, 2D sketching, and SolidWorks-based 3D modeling to create renders and hand models. Execute rapid prototyping using foam core, 3D prints, and other compounds for evaluation, while creating and updating design documentation to communicate intent to internal and overseas teams. Define Design for Manufacturing specifications to guide production and make recommendations on new product schedules and design changes. Requires 0-3 years of experience with toy or arts and crafts products, SolidWorks proficiency, and a portfolio submission.
Required Qualifications
- 0-3 years of experience in the field of Industrial Design
- Toy and/or arts and crafts experience
- Proficiency in SolidWorks
- Experience working with licensed brands/products
- Excellent sketching, form development, CAD modeling, rendering, and graphic skills
- Working knowledge of materials and mass production procedures
- Ability to come to our office in New Providence, NJ as needed (up to 3x/week) for prototyping, sample review, etc.
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Industrial Design
- knowledge of plastic injection molding
- Experience building proof of concept models and working with 3D print shops, shop tools, materials, and the manufacturing processes
- Comfortable with all phases of the design process - from research to concept development and detail design for manufacturing
- Strong ability in hands on model making/prototyping
- Willingness to work closely with, and take direction from, senior design team members
