Job Summary
Industrial Designer to drive manufacturable product development for Brunton’s outdoor, military, and geology lines. Role combines hands-on CAD work (SolidWorks) and 3D rendering with packaging design, branding, and collaboration across supply chain, production, and marketing. Responsibilities include creating and revising CAD/SolidWorks drawings, updating BOMs and routings in ERP, providing vendor CAD/layout files, redesigning packaging for durability and eco-friendly materials, prototyping and testing, developing manufacturing processes, and supporting product launches with design assets and technical details. Must balance creativity with manufacturing constraints, apply a heritage-brand design language, and contribute to branding and apparel/merchandise production. Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks), Adobe Illustrator, understanding of materials and manufacturing processes, and experience with ERP systems (NetSuite) are required or strongly preferred. A Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design or related field plus a strong design portfolio is requested; experience designing outdoor gear and working with manufacturing partners is valued.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Mechanical Engineering, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered
- Strong portfolio demonstrating successful product design, 3D modeling, prototyping, and packaging design
- Proficiency in CAD software, preferably SolidWorks, with ability to create drawings, renderings, assemblies, and explosion diagrams
- Proficiency in Adobe suite, especially Adobe Illustrator, with ability to create parts designs, packaging, mockups, and design presentations
- Understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and mechanical design basics
- Ability to balance creativity with manufacturing limitations, cost, and product performance
- Strong communication, organization, and project management skills
- Familiarity with ERP systems, especially NetSuite
- Experience designing outdoor gear, compasses, technical instruments, or other hard goods
- Experience with injection molding, CNC machining, textiles, plastics, metal fabrication, adhesives, or precision assemblies
- Experience designing products that must perform in rugged environments
- Prototype experience using 3D printing as well as industrial machine shop tools
- Collaborative and positive team player who is able to take and give directions
- Experience working with supply chain teams to push new parts to vendors
- Experience with product launches and packaging concepts
- Experience with branding and visual identity at product level
- Experience with custom pad print or laser engraving projects
