Job Summary
The Industrial Buyer role focuses on sourcing raw materials, specialized equipment, fabricated parts, tooling, and components for machinery production. Responsibilities include interpreting engineering drawings and BOM requirements to guide procurement, engaging suppliers for pricing, lead times, and availability, assessing vendor performance to ensure on-time delivery and quality, exploring procurement strategies (direct sourcing vs. competitive bidding), generating purchase orders and bid solicitations, supporting new product initiatives with parts forecasting and cost analyses, maintaining procurement data across digital systems, collaborating with quality and operations to address nonconforming materials, driving order fulfillment to keep production schedules on track, expanding the supplier base to reduce costs and elevate performance, and coordinating with accounting on invoices and supplier onboarding.
Required Qualifications
- Holds a High School diploma or equivalent
- 8-10 years of professional purchasing experience, preferably within an industrial manufacturing environment
- Ability to read and comprehend engineering drawings and blueprints
- Ability to adjust and change priorities quickly as production needs shift
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with computers including Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Experience maintaining computerized procurement records and material planning systems
- Strong negotiation skills to initiate cost-reduction measures and establish strategic supplier relationships
