Job Summary
Industrial Automation & Controls Technician responsible for maintaining, programming, and troubleshooting PLCs, HMIs, servo drives, VFDs, sensors, vision systems, and encoders; developing and maintaining industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, I/O Link); programming safety controllers; interpreting schematics; supporting installation, commissioning, and ongoing process automation; monitoring performance and driving efficiency; following LOTO procedures and ensuring regulatory and internal safety compliance; collaborating with quality, engineering, production, and technical services; documenting work processes and reporting project progress.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree or trade school certification in controls, electronics, or a related field
- Journeyman’s card or equivalent electrical certification
- 3–5 years of manufacturing or production experience with both electrical and mechanical systems
- PLC/HMI programming experience (Allen Bradley, Siemens, or ELAU)
- Electrical troubleshooting experience, including motors (480V)
- Understanding of industrial network protocols and process control systems
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Self-motivated, reliable, and able to work independently or as part of a team
- Knowledge of industry safe practices and procedures
Desired Qualifications
- 3–5 years of manufacturing or production experience with both electrical and mechanical systems
- PLC/HMI programming experience (Allen Bradley, Siemens, or equivalent)
- Electrical troubleshooting experience (motors 480V)
- Understanding of industrial network protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, I/O Link)
- Knowledge of lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures
- Ability to read electrical schematics, blueprints, and drawings
- Ability to work independently or in a team
- Strong communication skills
- Journeyman’s card or equivalent electrical certification
- Associate degree or trade school certification in controls, electronics, or related field
- Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, or related field
- Experience in regulated manufacturing environments (FDA, ISO)
- Experience with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement
- Familiarity with high-speed packaging equipment
- Experience with safety controllers and vision systems
- Cross-functional collaboration with quality, engineering, production, and technical services
- Documenting work processes and reporting project progress
- Ability to monitor and optimize equipment performance
