Job Summary
Conduct advanced spatial and demographic analysis to validate, model, and write the official 2025 Population and Housing Census Thematic Report on Migration and Urbanization for the Lao Statistics Bureau. Execute technical triangulation of census micro-data with administrative records, construct migration matrices, and develop reproducible SPSS/R syntaxes while mentoring junior staff. Author a definitive national monograph, a policy brief on youth retention, and a suite of geospatial flow maps for the Census Dashboard. Deliver these outputs through a hybrid schedule of remote work and a five-day on-site mission in Vientiane, reporting directly to the UNFPA Policy and Census Coordinator.
Required Qualifications
- Senior demographer/migration expert
- Advanced technical assistance and demographic expertise
- Rigorous spatial and demographic techniques
- Experience with census data modules (specifically 'former household members')
- Ability to author definitive national monographs on Migration and Urbanization
- Capacity to build analytical capacities within LSB's technical teams
- Proficiency in SPSS and/or R syntaxes
- Experience with geospatial analysis and GIS mapping
- Ability to produce high-resolution maps and origin-destination flow maps
- Experience with administrative data triangulation and reconciliation
- Experience with migration matrices and demographic equations
- Ability to write clean, reproducible statistical scripts
- Experience with population pyramids and chord diagrams
- Experience with standardized data visualization templates
- Experience with UN standards for reporting
- Ability to produce publication-ready thematic monographs
- Ability to author concise, high-impact Policy Briefs
- Experience with Census Geospatial Data Dashboards
- Experience with international data sources (e.g., IOM data, EuroStat)
