Job Summary
Indigenous Victim Services Advocate provides intake and service delivery to victims of crime in Indigenous communities (Brantford, Six Nations, Hamilton, Cayuga), delivering wrap-around supports and referrals (Ontario Works, mental health, housing, and court-related services). Responsibilities include conducting intakes, documenting progress notes, coordinating accommodation and transportation, assisting with court and legal processes, educating victims about IVS rights, and conducting program outreach. Requires knowledge of Haudenosaunee Principles, crisis and peer counseling intervention, and the ability to respond after hours; interacts with multiple agencies and supports victims in crisis while maintaining confidentiality and strong communication. The role may require flexible hours and field presence across Indigenous communities.
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in social work, sociology, psychology, criminology or a closely related field, with a strong counseling background and at least two years of professional experience.
- OR A two-year accredited diploma in social service work, with three to five years of continuous experience in the human services field.
- At least three years of experience working with Indigenous organizations or within First Nations communities.
- A minimum of six months of experience in a Victim Services agency or working directly with victims of crime.
