Job Summary
Conduct home visits to provide developmental support, coaching, and resources to families of children aged 0–6 at risk of developmental delay. Deliver culturally safe, strengths-based services through consultation, training for caregivers, and the creation of Individual Service Plans. Perform developmental screenings, determine support levels, and manage electronic files while ensuring timely provincial reporting. Collaborate with staff across the Out of School Care Program, Child Development Centre, and Wellness Team to strengthen the child's Circle of Support and assist with transitions to kindergarten. Maintain comprehensive records and make referrals to relevant external services as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in early childhood development, Child and Youth Care, Psychology, Social Work, Education, Human Services, or a related discipline
- Minimum three (3) years of related experience supporting children aged 0–6 and their families
- Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, results acceptable to WFN
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driver's abstract with access to a reliable vehicle
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification
- Meets all immunization and tuberculosis screening requirements in accordance with provincial legislation and program requirements
- Maintains a high level of confidentiality and uses discretion on all matters relating to the affairs of the Westbank First Nation and clients
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to develop and maintain a warm, caring, responsive relationship with children and families
- Ability to establish and maintain supportive, collaborative relationships with families, child care setting staff, child development professionals, and colleagues
- Knowledge of Westbank First Nation and of the support services offered within the community
- Working knowledge of trauma-informed, family-centered, and inclusive practice
- Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Ability to work individually and as part of a team with minimal supervision
- Ability to use a cultural safety framework when working with Indigenous children, families, and communities
- Demonstrates a high degree of confidentiality in interpersonal interaction
- Working knowledge of the history of colonization in Canada and its ongoing impact on modern issues affecting Indigenous Peoples
- Working knowledge in communicating with Indigenous Peoples, demonstrating sensitivity and empathy, and awareness of how language choices can influence and impact conversation
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working with Indigenous children, families, and communities is considered an asset
- Knowledge and training in: DAYC-2, ASQ-3, ASQ-SE-2, Motivational Interviewing, Moe the Mouse, and Circle of Security-Parenting considered an asset
