Job Summary
Provide trauma-informed, culturally safe advocacy and accompaniment to Indigenous individuals and families who have experienced abuse or violence. Orient participants to support programs and their circle of care while facilitating informed decision-making and referrals to community services. Collaborate with health services, RCMP, child protection, and other agencies to ensure continuity of care and resolve conflicts. Support family members and circles of care using a strength-based approach that leverages cultural resiliency and spiritual practices. Assist with transportation to appointments and completion of required forms and paperwork. Maintain alignment with program needs and Encompass values throughout all interactions.
Required Qualifications
- Valid BC Class 5 Drivers' license
- Reliable vehicle
- Business Insurance
- Acceptable drivers abstract
- Police Information check including vulnerable sector check
- Current Emergency First Aid
- Three (3) years direct service delivery experience in the community social services sector
- Experience working with vulnerable children, youth, and families
- Experience working with Elders and the Indigenous communities
- Demonstrated knowledge of traditional, cultural practices and protocols, particularly of the local First Nations (Kwantlen, Katzie, Matsqui, and Semiahmoo First Nations)
- Willingness to learn other cultural practices within a diverse Indigenous clientele
- Proficiency in the use of a computer and applicable office software applications
- Training and experience in mental health, sexual abuse, trauma, depression, suicide, and/or co-occurring disorders
- Ongoing, demonstrated commitment to Reconciliation and anti-oppressive practice
- Understanding of the principles of trauma-informed practice and Indigenous Cultural Safety
- Demonstrated knowledge and application of trauma-informed and culturally safe principles
- Demonstrated commitment to furthering these practices through ongoing professional development
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, policies, procedures, and certification requirements – such as the Mental Health Act, the Child, Family and Community Service Act (CFCSA), Bill C-92, the Infants Act, the Victims Bill of Rights, and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act
- Good working knowledge of social service and government systems
- Must possess a valid BC Class 5 Drivers' license
- Must have a reliable vehicle

- Must have a Police Information check including vulnerable sector check
- Must have Current Emergency First Aid
- Must be willing to learn other cultural practices within a diverse Indigenous clientele

Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in human/social services or related field
- Established relationships with local First Nations
- Experience working with vulnerable children, youth, and families, preferably in the anti-violence sector
