Job Summary
Under the direction of the Supervisor, provide direct service to Indigenous children and youth experiencing problems that prohibit them from reaching their full potential. Support frontline staff at Youth Departments/Indigenous Child and Family Centres by assisting with drop-in services, developing life and social skills workshops for ages 7-29, and creating community resources for homeless and at-risk youth. Deliver supportive services including crisis intervention, dispute resolution, and group activities while maintaining relationships with internal and external resources. Conduct outreach through cultural community events and school visits to collaborate on service delivery plans. Work collaboratively between East and West locations, maintain accurate written reports, and ensure accessibility of individual and family services within the Centre and Early Years Programs. This position requires evening and weekend work.
Required Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Child and Youth Work/Child and Youth Care
- Strong understanding and practice of Indigenous approaches to healing, including land-based practices and Cultural knowledge
- Understanding of the unique dynamics that exist within the First Nations, Inuit, and Metis cultures
- Knowledge of social risk factors in relation to high-priority neighborhoods and the Urban Indigenous community
- Knowledge and skills in the delivery of group programs and workshops
- Excellent organizational, oral/verbal/written communication skills

- Ability to work effectively with all levels of staff, to maintain effective communication and working relationships
- Pass a vulnerable sector police records check
- This position requires the ability to work evenings and some weekends
Desired Qualifications
- Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education and experience working with Indigenous children and youth will be considered
