Job Summary
Independent Living Specialist responsibilities include managing an assigned caseload for residents in a community residence, making referrals to medical, mental health, and substance abuse services, providing supportive counseling, conducting regular client visits, ensuring safety, teaching activities of daily living, completing housing applications and service plans, maintaining clinical files, assisting with intake/admission, participating in community meetings, and providing emergency first aid/CPR as needed. The role operates on a full-time evening schedule (Sunday-Thursday or Tuesday-Saturday, 3pm-11:30pm) in Harlem/Manhattan, with duties across the Cecil Ivory House transitional housing program, serving formerly homeless clients who are mentally ill or dually diagnosed, and reporting to BRC. Qualifications emphasize HS diploma or GED, experience with substance abuse/mentally ill populations, strong writing, CPR, and computer literacy.
