Job Summary
Develop and implement differentiated lesson plans for special education students across in-person, distance, and virtual learning environments. Collaborate with parents, students, and staff to develop Individual Education Plans through the ARD Committee process while conducting ongoing assessments of student achievement. Manage classroom behavior, administer discipline, and provide physical assistance to students with disabilities as required by IEPs. Supervise assigned teacher aides and participate in faculty meetings, staff development, and regular safety protocols. Maintain all required reports, records, and instructional media files in compliance with federal, state, and district regulations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required special education endorsements for assignments
- Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area
- Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting process and implementation
- Knowledge of how to adapt curriculum and instruction for special needs
- Effective communication skills
- Student teaching or approved internship or related work experience
- May require regular heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and positioning of students with physical disabilities
- Control behavior through physical restraint
- Assist nonambulatory students
- lift and move adaptive and other classroom equipment
- Maintain emotional control under stress
