In-Service Bridge Inspector

Job Summary
Plan and complete bridge, culvert, and ancillary structure inspections while leading the work of others and coordinating traffic control and equipment rentals. Perform complex field inspections to identify structural conditions and guide team members in documenting findings through notes, measurements, and photographs. Lead the timely completion of inspection and scoping reports in accordance with contractual requirements, serving as a technical resource and mentor to junior staff. Ensure all activities comply with federal and state requirements and safety standards. Maintain qualification as a Bridge Inspection Team Leader through ongoing training and field proficiency.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 7-10 years of relevant bridge inspection experience
- Meet FHWA Bridge Inspection Team Leader qualification requirements, including successful completion of an FHWA-approved comprehensive bridge inspection training course
- Possess strong organizational, problem-solving, prioritization, communication, and leadership skills
- Have the ability to effectively interact with and build relationships with team members and clients
- Have a valid driver's license, be insurable, and be able to safely operate a vehicle on highways and at job sites
- Remain current on federal and state requirements to maintain qualification as a Bridge Inspection Team Leader, including refresher training and field proficiency requirements
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
- Be a registered Professional Engineer (PE)
- Have five (5) years of bridge inspection experience
- Hold a NICET Level III or IV Bridge Safety Inspector certification
- Hold an Associate's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology and have four (4) years of bridge inspection experience
- Hold a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, have passed the FE/EIT exam, and have two (2) years of bridge inspection experience
- Familiar with Auto CAD and ARC GIS
