Job Summary

Supervise students in the classroom, cafeteria, hallway, bus loading and unloading areas, locker rooms, and other assigned school zones while maintaining a safe, secure, and respectful learning environment. Assist students in developing academic skills, behaviors, and attitudes, and provide direction for those demonstrating at-risk behaviors, often without direct teacher supervision. Correct papers, supervise testing and makeup work, and maintain accurate records regarding student discipline, attendance, and learning materials. Collaborate with classroom teachers, support staff, and administration to meet the needs of all students while communicating effectively in English and Spanish.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be bilingual English/Spanish
  • High School Diploma or equivalent by OAR 581-37-030
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Two years of post-secondary education or an Associates Degree from an accredited institution or the ability to pass a district-approved equivalency test
  • Two years of experience working with adolescents
  • Communicates effectively and appropriately in both oral and written form
  • Communicates effectively in Spanish or Russian (if assigned) in both oral and written form
  • Possess knowledge of proper English usage, mathematics, and a basic understanding of the subjects in which this position is to provide assistance
  • Possess basic clerical skills (i.e., word -processing, data base, operation of office equipment)
  • Demonstrates computer literacy and operates software programs as related to job responsibilities
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance
  • The employee is expected to be dressed and groomed in a neat, clean, and appropriate professional manner for the assignment and work setting
  • Work in inclement weather for short periods of time
  • May be required to obtain a First Aid and/or CPR Card or be a Designated First Aid Provider
  • May be required to translate and/or interpret
  • Maintains regular attendance at work and work activities, and is punctual in meeting deadlines, attending meetings, and following schedules
  • Complies with professional development activities as required by the District
  • Maintains the integrity of confidential information relating to a student, family, colleague, or district patron, and uses or relays academic, social, or personal information only in the course of performing assigned responsibilities and in the best interest of the individuals involved
  • Follows all laws, District policies, rules, regulations, memos, announcements, and reasonable requests by proper authority
