Job Summary
Provide a safe, structured learning environment for students in in-school suspension while teaching conflict resolution and social/emotional strategies. Assist classroom teachers with academic assignments and collect and return student work without interrupting instruction. Monitor students constantly within the ISS room to ensure they remain on-site and do not run errands. Maintain appropriate records, including attendance and assignments, and uphold strict confidentiality regarding student information. Admit only students referred by administrators and establish standards of pupil behavior to facilitate a positive return to the classroom.
Required Qualifications
- Two years college (48 hours minimum) including 9 hours of Mathematics and 9 hours of English
- Associate degree
- Higher education degree
- Pass the test stipulated by the Louisiana State Department of Education
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of students and/or parents
- Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
- Regularly required to stand and talk or hear
- Occasionally required to walk
- Occasionally required to sit
- Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms
- Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch
- Must occasionally lift or move light weight
- 170 days employment term
