Job Summary
Supervise and monitor students assigned to in-school detention, lunch detention, or after-school programs while diffusing conflicts and providing instructional assistance. Receive students scheduled by administration, reschedule assignments with teachers, and input or report attendance to the office. Notify staff of new detention assignments, refer behavioral issues to administration and counselors, and provide classroom coverage as needed. Maintain school radios, ensure hall duty stations are covered, and assist with cafeteria or bus duty. Apply Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports principles to ensure student safety and respect. Requires a high school diploma, 60 college credits or associate's degree, and experience with special learning needs. Pay grade 7, 9.5-month period of employment, non-exempt status. Manassas City Public Schools.
Required Qualifications
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Must possess a minimum of 60 college credits; or an associate's degree or higher; or a passing score on the Para Pro Assessment.
- Must have experience working with students with special learning or disciplinary needs.
- Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls.
- Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to: a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine.
- Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, or repetitive motions required.

- Willingness to resolve issues as they occur and to work with building administrators to handle disciplinary problems.
- Ability work well with others and be flexible.
- Ability to establish rapport with the students and exercise patience.
- Positive attitude and the desire to assist students with special needs.
- Serve as role model.
- Uses the tenants of 'Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS)' to ensure students are safe, respectful, and responsible.
