In-House Legal Counsel / Senior Corporate Counsel – Construction

Job Summary

Draft, review, and negotiate construction contracts, owner agreements, and subcontracts while developing standardized templates and playbooks. Advise leadership on delay claims, payment disputes, change orders, and defective work by drafting legal correspondence and coordinating litigation strategy with outside counsel. Provide guidance on Florida construction law, mechanic's liens, bonds, and insurance provisions to support company-wide risk management initiatives. Build scalable legal processes, including contract approval workflows and claims tracking procedures, and manage relationships with external legal counsel. Partner directly with executive leadership, operations, and project management teams to protect the organization's legal interests in a fast-paced construction environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Active member in good standing with The Florida Bar
  • Experience handling construction contracts
  • Experience handling commercial agreements
  • Experience handling construction disputes
  • Experience handling construction litigation or risk management
  • Strong knowledge of construction contracting and risk allocation
  • Exceptional drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills
  • Ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to work primarily on-site in Doral, FL

Desired Qualifications

  • 7–15+ years of relevant legal experience
  • Prior in-house counsel experience with a General Contractor
  • Prior in-house counsel experience with a Construction Manager
  • Prior in-house counsel experience with a Developer
  • Prior in-house counsel experience with an Engineering Firm
  • Prior in-house counsel experience with a Surety
  • Prior in-house counsel experience with a Real Estate Organization
  • Experience negotiating owner contracts and subcontract agreements
  • Familiarity with Florida lien law
  • Familiarity with Payment & performance bonds
  • Familiarity with Construction defects
  • Familiarity with Delay claims
  • Familiarity with Insurance coverage
  • Experience managing outside counsel
  • Spanish language skills
