Job Summary
Structure customer contracts, MSAs, and order forms to align risk across copyright, data access, and privacy while accelerating deal velocity. Own the legal framework for partnership and content licensing deals, ensuring risk lands appropriately in novel, unsettled areas of web scraping and public data law. Partner directly with engineering teams on technical compliance regarding crawling practices, robots.txt, and terms of service, translating complex legal landscapes into practical guidance for a fast-moving product. Build foundational legal infrastructure including templates and playbooks to support scaling through Series B. Report to the Head of Finance and Legal, advising founders on strategy and risk as Firecrawl expands its data sourcing capabilities.
Required Qualifications
- Fluency in the legal landscape of web scraping and public data
- Knowledge of crawling practices
- Knowledge of robots.txt
- Knowledge of terms of service
- Knowledge of case law around access
- Knowledge of copyright law
- Knowledge of data access law
- Knowledge of privacy law
- Ability to structure agreements so risk lands where it should across copyright, data access, and privacy
- Ability to structure customer contracts (MSAs and Order Forms) so risk lands in the right place across copyright, data access, and privacy
- Ability to structure partnership and content licensing deals so risk lands in the right place
- Ability to translate legal complexity into clear, practical guidance for a fast-moving team
- Ability to be the only lawyer in the room and make the call
- Ability to find the path to 'yes, and here's how' instead of defaulting to 'no'
- Ability to engage with engineers about how data flows
- Ability to work on the technical-compliance side of sourcing and serving data
Desired Qualifications
- Experience owning legal across a business as it scales
- Experience partnering with revenue teams to redline customer contracts, MSAs, and DPAs
- Experience moving deals forward quickly without letting risk pile up
- Experience building legal infrastructure including templates, playbooks, and processes
- Experience advising founders and heads of finance/legal on risk, structure, and strategy during a Series B
- Experience working closely with founders and heads of finance/legal
- Experience working directly with engineering teams on technical-compliance issues
- Experience in the Lower Haight neighborhood, San Francisco, CA
