In-Country Operations Specialist

Job Summary
In-Country Operations Specialist role focused on shaping and implementing the strategic roadmap for JUMO's key strategic partnerships, leveraging local market knowledge and operating through a remote-first model. The position reports to the Regional Manager (East Africa) with emphasis on Southern Africa and East Africa operations. Responsibilities include setting and achieving operational targets, contributing to strategic plans and reviews, driving productivity improvements and quality checks, sustaining stakeholder relationships through regular visits, coordinating cross-functional inputs (Portfolio Management, Product, Marketing, Customer Insights, Data Science, Finance, Capabilities, and Customer Operations), proactively planning and executing projects and operational activities including compliance, and providing real-time governance and reporting to support partner Steering Committee engagements. The role requires staying informed on regulatory changes affecting in-country operations, plus strong leadership and communication capabilities. The role is based in South Africa or Uganda with a remote-first working approach, facilitating flexible work location while maintaining connectivity; co-working spaces are available in Cape Town and Kampala. The candidate should have a Bachelor's degree, 5+ years of relevant experience, experience in financial services or technology sectors, and proven ability in project and relationship management, with knowledge of mobile financial services and financial product dynamics.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, Commerce, Finance, Economics, Accounting or similar
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role in Financial Services, Technology, Telecom, FMCGs, FINTECH
- Spoken and written fluency in English
- Experience in project management
- High level and sophisticated relationship management experience across various senior and other levels in an organization
- Very good understanding and experience of financial products and performance, including credit risk, dynamics of lending, saving and some insurance
- Experience in negotiating with major counter-parties to achieve and facilitate a given strategy
- Experience leading a team
- Prior experience with mobile financial services
- Excellent time management, planning and organizational skills
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- Confidence, presentation ability
- Ability to work to tight deadlines, multi-task, prioritize and handle a diverse workload
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
- MBA is a bonus
