Job Summary
Review and validate import documentation including commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, and certificates of origin to ensure timely customs clearance and compliance with trade regulations. Verify accuracy of HS/HTS classifications, item descriptions, quantities, values, Incoterms, and country of origin information by collaborating with customs brokers, freight forwarders, Global Trade Compliance, Purchasing, Warehouse, and Finance. Coordinate electronic filings such as ACE/ABI and e-manifests while resolving discrepancies or holds, and maintain documentation records per corporate retention policies. Support month-end accrual processes for landed costs, duties, and brokerage fees, and develop SOPs to drive process improvements that reduce clearance errors and duty exposure.
Required Qualifications
- Associate or bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, International Business, Logistics, or equivalent work experience
- 2+ years' experience in import documentation, customs operations or trade compliance
- U.S. imports preferred
- Proficiency with MS Excel
- Experience using ERPs or Global Trade Management systems
- Knowledge of HTS/HS classification
- Knowledge of Incoterms
- Knowledge of country of origin rules
- Knowledge of basic customs valuation principles
- Travel Requirement: 5-10% upon request
Desired Qualifications
- Certifications such as Certified Customs Specialist (NCBFAA/CCS), Licensed Customs Broker, or similar
- Experience working with customs brokers, freight forwarders and GSP/preferential origin documentation
- Experience in a multi-division or multinational manufacturing environment
- Familiarity with export controls (EAR/ITAR)
- Familiarity with ECCN
- Familiarity with denied party screening tools
- Experience using ACE/ABI or other customs filing systems
