Job Summary
Lead a team of 18-25 AmeriCorps Volunteers through a year of service, managing performance via consistent check-ins, clear expectations, and timely feedback. Coach student success coaches on career development, ensuring adherence to AmeriCorps service requirements and fostering an inclusive team culture. Implement City Year's service model by delivering differentiated tutoring in English-Language Arts, math, and interpersonal skills, while interpreting data to guide coaching priorities and inform decisions with school partners. Serve as the primary liaison between City Year and the school, building relationships with principals and teachers to align service with school priorities. Collaborate with teammates to achieve sitewide goals and lead onboarding training sessions. Work on-site at designated school placements with one office-based day weekly, traveling between campuses and to the Detroit office.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Work, Urban Studies, Youth Work, or other related field
- 2-5 years of experience in education or comparable experience
- At least 1 year of management experience with strong track record of results
- Setting high expectations and holding self and team accountable for performance goals
- Developing diverse talent through performance plans, reviews and leadership opportunities
- Using progress and outcome data to inform team management
- Authorized documentation to work in the United States of America
- Criminal background history clearance to work with school-age children, depending on the position
- Be physically present on your assigned school campus(es) during designated work hours
- Lift and carry instructional materials, books, and supplies up to ~20 pounds
- Have sufficient vision to read printed materials, a computer screen, and observe student activities
- Have sufficient hearing to understand conversations in person or over the phone
- Speak clearly and be understood by students, parents, and colleagues
- Open doors or operate a computer and other instructional technology
- Supervise students indoors and outdoors, including during inclement weather
- Have access to reliable means of personal transportation
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced, youth-centered school environment, with a noise level that can range from moderate to high
- Must have reliable internet access when remote or flexible work arrangements are approved

- Typical schedule: 40 hours per week with occasional extended hours as needed
- Typical schedule: Monday-Friday 9:00 – 5:00 pm or 8:15 am – 4:15 pm
- Weekly travel required to downtown City Year Detroit office and periodic travel to other locations across Metro Detroit
- Must have reliable internet access when remote or flexible work arrangements are approved
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Work, Urban Studies, Youth Work, or other related field preferred but experience in management, non-profits, community service and/or youth work is acceptable
- City Year/AmeriCorps/Peace Corps/ National service experience
- Proven professional relationships and experience working with/in Detroit Public School Community District or as a contracted provider with DPSCD
- Demonstrated ability to work with and lead diverse teams of young adults which includes experience coaching young people and working with diverse populations to achieve goals
- Experience using data to inform decisions
