Job Summary
Maintain the Imaginarium, SCU's VR Lab, by checking and updating software on workstations, installing new tools as requested, and protecting systems from inappropriate customization. Manage mixed reality hardware including VR headsets and 360 cameras, while enforcing lab guidelines on cleanliness and equipment usage. Welcome visitors, assist them with VR experiences, and partner with campus groups to plan field trips, workshops, and open houses. Consult with faculty and companies on designing mixed reality projects, staying current with technology, and providing direction on product development. Oversee user testing procedures and assist with experimental protocols. Develop curriculum on mixed reality development, assist in classes held in the lab, and maintain a library of experiences for course reading. Recruit, hire, and train student workers, assigning them to faculty projects and managing their work to ensure quality outcomes.
Required Qualifications
- Experience with the mixed reality development pipeline, including but not limited to: Object-oriented programming, Game design, 3D modeling and animation, Environment design, User experience design, User testing
- Up-to-date knowledge on technologies surrounding mixed reality
- Digital humanities concepts related to mixed reality development
- Coding in C++, C#, or an equivalent object-oriented language
- Experience developing games or mixed reality experiences using Unity, Unreal Engine, or an equivalent game engine
- Teaching and training new mixed reality developers
- Explaining mixed reality concepts to students and faculty
- Project management
- Hardware and software maintenance
- Software testing and quality assurance
- Bachelor's degree related to Computer Science, Digital Art, or equivalent experience
- 0-3 years of experience in mixed reality development or research
- The ability to effectively establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within a diverse multicultural environment
- The ability to promote and contribute to an inclusive and respectful workplace
- May be required to travel to other buildings on the campus
- May be required to attend conference and training sessions within Bay Area or in- or out-of-state locations
- May be required to occasionally travel to outside customers, vendors or suppliers
- May be required to lift heavy equipment and perform physical work on the floor while maintaining and installing hardware in the lab
- May be required to demonstrate or test VR experiences that require physically strenuous activity or include nauseating scenes
- Employees approved to telecommute are required to perform their work within one of these states: California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, and Illinois
- Verification of their identity and eligibility to work in the United States
