Job Summary
ICU Veterinary Nurse Assistant role at Penn Vet's Ryan Veterinary Hospital in Philadelphia. Responsibilities include stocking supplies, cleaning cages and patient areas, setting up and breaking down equipment, preparing and labeling materials, transporting deceased patients to appropriate cooler, assisting with discharge of outpatients, and supporting nurses during patient care. Responsibilities also cover proper handling and running of laboratory tests and samples (Nova, PCV/TP, blood smears, glucometer, Idexx tests), preparing IV catheter setups, and anticipating nurses' needs. Requires ability to work in 24/7 nursing areas, familiarity with monitoring equipment (pulse oximeter, ECG, Doppler), and effective collaboration with nursing staff. A/B level responsibilities specify supervised treatments on stable patients, patient restraint, and potential involvement in different hospital areas (ES, ICU, Wards). Education requirement is a High School Diploma with relevant veterinary experience, and strong multitasking, following directions, and interpersonal skills are essential.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma and 1-2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience for Veterinary Nurse Assistant A
- High School Diploma and 2-3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience for Veterinary Nurse Assistant B
- Experience working in a veterinary setting and with patient restraint
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to stand, kneel, bend, reach for prolonged periods, lift >25 pounds
