Job Summary
BDSP II provides direct support, training, and guidance to individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities to help them build skills for independent living. This includes supporting clients at volunteer work sites, community centers, and during community outings. The Instructor plays a vital role in promoting independence, social inclusion, and personal growth while ensuring health, safety, and dignity at all times. Responsibilities include safely transporting individuals to and from program activities; providing hands-on instruction and support in community-based volunteer work sites; developing social, vocational, and daily living skills; facilitating participation in community centers and recreational activities; assisting with behavior support strategies; maintaining accurate documentation (attendance, progress notes, incident reports); ensuring safety and dignity; collaborating with families and staff; and modeling professional workplace behaviors. Scheduling can be full-time or part-time with flexibility to meet participant needs.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Some college coursework in human services or related fields preferred
- Experience working with individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities strongly preferred
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record and ability to operate company or personal vehicle as required
- Ability to pass required background checks and health clearances
- Strong communication, patience, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently, as well as part of a collaborative team
- Willingness to drive, walk, or accompany individuals in various community settings
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. and assist individuals with mobility as needed
