Job Summary
Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer opportunities at multiple levels in Greenville, SC and Houston, TX. Responsible for providing technical engineering support for control systems, instrumentation, and automation across assigned projects. Develop and review I&C design criteria, calculations, and specifications; perform design activities for control systems (DCS, PLC, SIS), instrumentation, and process controls; develop wiring diagrams, schematics, loop diagrams, instrument datasheets, and control narratives. Support P&ID development/review; perform sizing calculations for valves and flow elements; maintain instrument index and design databases; coordinate issues with multi-disciplinary teams; provide technical support for procurement, field changes, and commissioning/startup. Senior/Principal levels include leading I&C engineering scope, providing guidance to engineers, developing estimates/schedules, and interfacing with clients and vendors. Requires US citizenship and may require DOE security clearance. Education: bachelor’s degree in relevant engineering fields. Hours: 40-hour work week with potential additional hours. Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Control Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related field
- Design Engineer (Mid-Level): Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
- Senior Design Engineer: Minimum 10 years of relevant experience
- Principal Design Engineer: Minimum 15 years of relevant experience
- Experience supporting I&C systems design and engineering deliverables
- Proficiency with control systems (PLC, DCS, SIS)
- Instrumentation design and specifications
- Engineering documentation and control logic development
- Experience with process controls and instrumentation
- Control system architecture and configuration
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local codes and standards
- Ability to coordinate across multi-discipline engineering teams
- Strong communication and technical problem-solving skills
- US Citizenship required
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance if required
- Preferred: Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Experience supporting large EPC projects
- Experience with HazOp / PHA
- Safety Instrumented Systems (SIL, LOPA)
- Nuclear or DOE project environments
- Familiarity with instrumentation databases (e.g., SPI)
- Experience with CAD tools (AutoCAD, MicroStation)
- Experience with commissioning and startup of control systems
