Job Summary

Conduct inspection duties on highway construction projects, including preliminary and construction surveying, ROW staking, sampling construction materials, and documenting contractor daily work. Operate snow removal equipment to perform snow removal activities as needed and read construction and bridge plans effectively. Work varying hours outdoors on highway construction projects, including nights, evenings, and weekends, and report to work outside scheduled hours for snow and other highway emergencies. Obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and receive training under direct supervision.

Required Qualifications

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age
  • Have a valid driver's license
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a Class A or B CDL within 90 days of hire
  • Must be able to safely move, drag, and lift 35 pounds frequently, up to 60 pounds occasionally (without assistance) and 90 or more pounds infrequently (with assistance)
  • Must be able to climb, bend, or stoop
  • Must be able to work in outdoor temperature extremes
  • Must be able to work around high-speed traffic
  • Must have strong organizational skills
  • Must have strong math skills
  • Must be able to multitask
  • Must be able to communicate both orally and in writing
  • Must be able to read and interpret plans and specifications
  • Must be able to perform mathematical calculations
  • Must be able to work and communicate with a team
  • Must be able to work safely and demonstrate safe and reliable practices and behaviors

  • Must have passed the NDOT Math, Highway Plan Reading, and Bridge Plan reading courses OR have an Associate's degree in civil engineering technology or a related field
