Job Summary

Conduct inspection duties on highway construction projects, including sampling and testing materials, documenting contractor work, and performing surveying activities. Read and interpret construction and bridge plans while calculating trigonometry and geometry for mathematical computations. Operate snow removal equipment and perform snow removal as needed, utilizing a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for field travel. Work varying hours outdoors under contractor schedules, which may include nights, evenings, and weekends, with the ability to report to emergencies within 40 minutes. Document construction-related activities indoors using computer record-keeping software and maintain detailed records and technical reports.

Required Qualifications

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age
  • Have a valid driver's license
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a Class A or B CDL within 90 days of hire
  • Must be able to report to work outside scheduled work hours for snow and other highway emergencies within 40 minutes under normal driving conditions
  • Must be able to lift equipment and samples weighing up to 100 pounds
  • Must be able to interpret and apply engineering plans and specifications
  • Must be able to plan, schedule, and lead the work of coworkers during assigned projects
  • Must be able to interact with coworkers, contractors, consultants, and the public to maintain cooperative work relationships

  • Must be able to work varying hours including nights, evenings, and weekends
