Job Summary
HVDC & FACTS Field Service Engineer – Power Electronics will deliver high-quality technical support by managing service contracts, coordinating site activities, and contributing to commissioning of FACTS and HVDC equipment. You will lead maintenance, onsite interventions, and technical support across FACTS and HVDC transmission systems, coordinate with end customers and internal teams, perform commissioning activities, oversee tendering inputs with the ITO team, and attend customer meetings to identify technical solutions. The role requires extensive travel, willingness to work overtime, and the ability to spend significant time away from home for field assignments. Based in the United Kingdom with a fully remote work setup.
Required Qualifications
- Engineering degree (or equivalent “house engineer” experience) in power electronics, with hands-on experience in drives, FACTS, or HVDC systems
- Strong site experience in switching equipment, harmonic filters, instrumentation transformers, and commissioning of protection relays
- Practical expertise in FACTS technologies (thyristor- and IGBT-based)
- Excellent customer-facing skills and ability to lead on-site teams during service or commissioning activities
- Strong safety (EHS) awareness and ability to apply safety rules rigorously
- Ability to travel extensively to and from projects and various field assignments; willing to work holidays, weekends, and overtime
- Excellent communication skills for writing reports and managing customer interactions
- Engineering background aligned with energy/electrical power systems
- Remote work readiness within the UK
- Ability to spend considerable time away from home for training and field assignments
