Job Summary

Independently diagnose and resolve complex system failures across HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical equipment with minimal supervision. Perform advanced maintenance and repairs on boilers, aquatic systems, and general construction tasks including carpentry and painting. Read blueprints and schematics to support repairs and project work, while executing preventative maintenance programs to minimize downtime. Order parts, maintain inventory, and utilize work order systems to document activities and track assets. Coordinate with contractors and vendors to ensure work meets Park District standards and specifications.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
  • Must be 21 years or older
  • Minimum 1+ years vocational education
  • 3-5 years' working experience as a HVAC technician
  • Experience with BAS (Building Automation Systems)
  • Advanced knowledge of multiple building trades including HVAC, plumbing, electrical and general construction
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret blueprints, schematics, and construction documents finished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
  • Strong mechanical and electrical skills
  • Strong organization and communication skills, with attention to detail and problem solving
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information to necessary team members and contractors
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Must hold a valid Class D driver's license
  • Must hold an EPA 608 Universal Certification
  • Must hold or complete OSHA 10 within the first year of employment
  • Must possess CPR/First Aid certificates within three months of hiring, provided by the Park District
  • Complete annual District trainings including, but not limited to, Sexual Harassment Training and Avoiding Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogen annually and Mandated Reporter every three years
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
  • Close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
  • Must be available for weekend hours as needed
  • Work over the July 3rd Celebration is mandatory
