Job Summary
HVAC Technician responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of commercial/industrial heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems in Ottawa, ON. Read and interpret plans, piping diagrams, and HVAC system schematics; install, inspect, maintain, and repair HVAC/R components (furnaces, boilers, heat pumps, air handling units, chillers); test systems for leaks and energy efficiency; determine ductwork and piping layouts; weld/braze/assemble piping and ductwork; install/maintain/repair control systems and thermostats; troubleshoot system failures and refrigerant leaks; perform preventive maintenance and maintain maintenance records; ensure compliance with Quebec HVAC codes and CSA standards; collaborate with project teams and clients. Requirements include DEP or equivalent, Certificate of Qualification or similar, relevant experience, knowledge of codes, ability to read plans, tool proficiency, autonomy, problem-solving, teamwork, and a valid driver’s license (asset).
Required Qualifications
- Valid HVAC Technician Qualification Certificate (e.g., Certificate of Qualification in Refrigeration, Ventilation, Heating, and Air Conditioning)
- DEP (Diploma of Vocational Studies) in Refrigeration, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning or equivalent relevant training
- Relevant experience as an HVAC technician in the commercial or industrial sector
- Excellent knowledge of current HVAC codes and standards
- Ability to read and interpret technical plans and schematics
- Proficiency with tools and equipment specific to the HVAC trade (e.g., manifold gauges, vacuum pump, leak detector, specialized hand tools)
- Autonomy, rigor, and attention to detail
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Ability to work in a team and communicate effectively
- Valid driver's license (an asset)
