Job Summary

Study system blueprints, specifications, and performance data to determine component configuration. Inspect systems to verify compliance with plans and detect malfunctions. Opens valves on compressors, pumps, and condensers to prepare equipment for operation. Starts systems, observes operation, reads gauges, and adjusts actuators, valves, controls, and pumps. Monitor Energy Management System for alarms, investigate out-of-spec situations, and take appropriate actions. Respond to temperature complaints, discuss malfunctions with users to isolate problems, and record readings on log sheets. Operate refrigerant recovery, vacuum, charging, and service equipment. Assemble structural components by screwing, bolting, welding, and brazing. Install wiring, dismantle systems, test components, and replace defective parts. Cut, thread, gas weld, and connect pipes. Cut, bend, crimp sheet metal, and install air ducts. Inspect buildings to determine airflow requirements. Lubricate fans, motors, and control units. Perform preventative maintenance on all HVAC equipment and maintain accurate paperwork. Organize inventory supplies, tools, and spare parts. Clean and organize the shop area.

Required Qualifications

  • HS Diploma or certified technical school
  • 10 or more years related experience and training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must possess a valid driver's license
  • Universal Recovery Certification
  • Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification
  • Type I Small Appliances certification
  • Type II High pressure and Very high pressure Appliances certification
  • Type III Low pressure appliances certification
  • Universal – Type I, II, and III certification
  • Fork truck and aerial lift equipment certification
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or associates of organization
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
  • Must demonstrate the ability to work with little to no supervision
  • Knowledge of all HVAC System including controls both pneumatic and DDC
  • EPA608 Universally Certified
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Must frequently lift and/or lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
