Job Summary

Install, inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain commercial and industrial HVAC systems, including chillers, cooling towers, and water-source heat pumps, while adhering to all local, state, and federal codes. Troubleshoot complex electrical and refrigerant issues, read wiring diagrams, and perform sheet metal work to ensure minimal downtime for students and staff. Schedule and participate in preventive maintenance programs and after-hours emergency on-call rotations, responding to failures on weekends and holidays with little notice. Maintain accurate service records, recommend parts, and communicate effectively with facility managers and project teams. Report safety hazards and operate heavy equipment such as hydraulic lifts and ladders in extreme temperatures.

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Texas driver's license and pass MVR driving record check
  • EPA Universal Certification
  • HVAC License (or equivalent certification per state requirements)
  • Minimum of 3 years of verifiable Commercial and/or Industrial HVAC Service, Repair and Installation experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of verifiable experience working with Building Automation Systems
  • Able to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair commercial and industrial HVAC equipment
  • Knowledge of sequences of operation for hot and chill water systems and controls
  • Able to read complex wiring and mechanical diagrams and schematics
  • Working ability to perform sheet metal work
  • Working knowledge of Building Automation Systems and related software
  • Knowledge and ability to troubleshoot refrigeration circuits
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Knowledge of basic techniques of hand tools, small power tools such as hand drills, refrigeration gauges, multimeters, welding/brazing equipment and proper use of ladders
  • Effective computer skills including basic knowledge of BAS/EMS and work order software systems
  • Ability to concentrate on assembly and repair of major HVAC equipment while maintaining emotional control and good communication to stakeholders
  • Ability to work and perform duties under time constraints
  • Working under stress and time constraints in hazardous conditions
  • Districtwide travel using district vehicles
  • Strenuous walking, standing and/or climbing
  • Heavy lifting of items weighing 70 lbs
  • Inside and outside exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures
  • Exposure to dust, toxic chemicals and materials
  • Exposure to slippery and/or uneven walking surfaces
  • Working on ladders
  • Working in an environment with energized high voltage equipment
  • Participate in HVAC Department After Hours Emergency On-Call rotation
  • Respond to emergencies after hours, on weekends and holidays with little or no notice
  • Be observant in buildings and report any safety hazards
  • Maintain constant communication with HVAC Supervisor regarding HVAC equipment and systems failures
